North Dakota Junior Beef Expo Results 2012

Teamwork, sportsmanship and showmanship are three elements that young cattle producers implemented during the annual North Dakota Junior Beef Expo.

Cattle Show

Kirsti Kueffler of Grenora exhibited the reserve champion Red Angus female, DK Miss Statement Y931, a Feb. 9, 2011, daughter of BMRA Mr. Statement 998.

NOT PICTURED: Kara Froelich of Dickinson exhibited the grand champion Red Angus female, ALRA AmberLight Galataeya 125, a March 20, 2011, daughter of Red SVR Gangster 14S. She later went on to be named third-place overall female.

 

Ian Hall of Berthold exhibited the grand champion Angus female, ZH Daddy’s Girl 149, an April 28, 2011, daughter of S Chisum 8251. The female later went on to be named supreme champion female.

 

Caleen Crider of Donnybrook exhibited the reserve champion Angus female, WAF Eileenmere’s Flicka, a March 1, 2010, daughter of SAV Net Worth 4200, and her Jan. 28, 2012, bull calf, Net Impression 201. She later went on to be named fourth-place overall female.

 

Macey Miller of Bismarck exhibited the grand champion Charolais female, Ms. High Value 1936, a Feb. 5, 2011, daughter of LT Blue Value 7903 ET.

Darci Lundquist of Alsen exhibited the grand champion Limousin female, TDTL X’s & O’s, an April 4, 2010, daughter of Syes User Friendly, and her March 7, 2012, heifer calf, TDTL Zoey 32Z.

 

Darci Lundquist of Alsen exhibited the reserve champion Limousin female, TDTL Young at Heart 30Y, an April 3, 2011, daughter of TDTL Stormy 101S.

 

Reece Idland of Circle, Mont., exhibited the grand champion Shorthorn female, DF Lily 13Y ET, a Jan. 21, 2011, daughter of DF Sundowner 6S. She later went on to be named fifth-place overall female.

Colby Hennessy of Stanley exhibited the grand champion Simmental female, 4E Shimmering Lights Y9, a Feb. 20, 2011, daughter of 4E Rolls Royce. The female later went on to be named reserve supreme champion female.

 

Calli Hennessy of Stanley exhibited the reserve champion Simmental female, 4E Sweet Tea Y734, a March 19, 2011, daughter of 4E Rolls Royce.

Jacob Hauck of Forbes exhibited the grand champion steer in the Dectomax Carcass Merit Contest’s high-quality division. Hauck’s 1,366-pound steer had a total carcass value of $1,602.57 on the quality grid.

Kirsti Kueffler of Grenora exhibited the reserve champion steer in the Dectomax Carcass Merit Contest’s high-quality division. Kueffler’s 1,436-pound steer had a total carcass value of $1,539.36 on the quality grid.

Deidra Sorenson of Grenora exhibited the grand champion steer in the Dectomax Carcass Merit Contest’s high-cutability division. Sorenson’s 1,298-pound steer had a total carcass value of $1,742.16 on the cutability grid.

Kirsti Kueffler of Grenora exhibited the reserve champion steer in the Dectomax Carcass Merit Contest’s high-cutability division. Kueffler’s 1,436-pound steer had a total carcass value of $1,722.03 on the cutability grid.

 

 
Hardest Worker:
 
 
 
Bailey Hawbaker of Portal earned the Hardest Worker Award at the North Dakota Junior Beef Expo. Selected by the show chairs and assistant chairs, Hawbaker not only participated in the Minute to Win It and advertising skit activities, exhibited a champion steer and made the showmanship finals, she also assisted many other exhibitors prep and display their animals. Hawbaker is a longtime Junior Beef Expo exhibitor.
 
 
 
NDSA Member Drawing:
 

 

Morgan Cummings of Berthold won $100 in the NDSA Member Drawing at the Junior Beef Expo. Livestock exhibitors who are NDSA members or the children of NDSA members earn a chance at the cash prize at the show each year. Cummings’ parents have been members for eight years.

 

 
Scholarship:
 

 

Caleen Crider, the daughter of Mike and Donita Crider of Donnybrook, was awarded the $200 North Dakota Junior Beef Expo Scholarship at the recent show in Williston. Crider, a 10-year Junior Beef Expo exhibitor, will be attending North Dakota State University this fall to pursue a degree in animal science and agribusiness. Her goal is to start a ranch of her own and “tell America the importance of the beef industry.” “I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to be a part of the Junior Beef Expo and meet new friends. Hard work and dedication are also skills that I have attained through the experience,” she said.

 

 
Minute to Win It:
 

Junior Teams

The first-place junior team consisted of Kacie Wacker of Plentywood, Mont., and MaKayla Brew of Manning. The second-place junior team consisted of Medora Ellingson of St. Anthony and LaMae Turk-Walton of Williston. Two teams tied for third place: Emilee Eggen of Plentywood, Mont., and Sierra Ellingson of St. Anthony and Macey Miller of Bismarck and Ethan Beery of Vida, Mont.
 

Intermediate Teams

The first-place intermediate team consisted of Aleecia Eggen and Kaylee Eggen, both of Plentywood, Mont. The second-place intermediate team consisted of Jacob Hauck of Forbes and Deidra Sorenson of Grenora. The third-place intermediate team consisted of Sheyenne Leedlee and Dylan Enger.
 

 
Senior Teams

The first-place senior team consisted of Kara Froelich of Dickinson and Darci Lundquist of Alsen. The second-place senior team consisted of Caleen Crider of Donnybrook and Colby Hennessy of Stanley. The third-place senior team consisted of Jaime Lundquist of Alsen and Bailey Hawbaker of Portal.

Sierra Ellingson of St. Anthony exhibited the grand and reserve champion photographs in the junior division of the Junior Beef Expo Photography Contest.
