North Dakota High School Beef Challenge Held

 

Ten recipes were chosen from entries submitted by Family Consumer Science class students across the state to compete in the ND High School Beef Challenge.  The Beef Challenge was held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Prairie Hills Mall in Dickinson, ND.  Participants prepared their original recipes that use one pound of ground beef.

 

Judges for the event were Karen Botine, State Supervisor Family & Consumer Sciences; Delores Roy, retired Stark County Extension Food and Nutrition agent; and Lisa Pederson, Beef Quality Assurance Specialist.

 

The 1st place recipe was Hamburger Stuffed Cabbage Rolls created by Alex Weltz of Watford City High School .  Alex won $100 for himself and $100 for his school.  2nd place was Spicy Bacon Wrapped Burgers created by Samanth Landsiedel  of Magic City High School.  Samantha won $75 for herself and $75 for her school.  3rd place went to Western BBQ Hamburger Wraps created by Samantha Hanson and Danielle Vlaminck of Harvey High School.  Samantha and Danielle won $50 for themselves and $50 for their school.

 

The North Dakota Beef Challenge is an annual project of the North Dakota Cattle Women in conjunction with the North Dakota Beef Commission.
