Lardy, Schulz recognized as Stockmen’s Association honorary members
The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) recognized long-time association members Dr. Greg Lardy of West Fargo, N.D., and Sherry Schulz of Bismarck, N.D., with Honorary Membership Awards at a special awards banquet during its annual convention in Minot, N.D., tonight.
Lardy has supported the NDSA for many years. The 22-year member has been a member since he was hired as the beef cattle Extension specialist for North Dakota State University (NDSU) in 1997. Lardy earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from NDSU in 1991. He went on to earn his master’s degree in animal science from the University of Missouri in 1993 and his Ph.D. in animal science from the University of Nebraska in 1997. Lardy was the NDSU Animal Science Department head from 2009 to 2018. Lardy currently serves many roles at NDSU as the associate vice president for agricultural affairs; the interim director of the NDSU Extension; and the acting director of the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station.
Lardy said he began attending NDSA events to meet new people. “It was always great to attend events and see familiar faces and feel so welcomed,” Lardy said. “Being a member of the NDSA has helped me network with people I otherwise might not have had the chance to meet.” Lardy has worked with NDSA leadership throughout the years, reporting at board meetings, presenting at the Research & Education Committee meetings and being a guest speaker at various events, such as the Spring Roundups and Tomorrow’s Top Hands Beef Leadership Summit.
He and his wife Lynae have three children, Jacob, Jarrett and JaeLyn. Jacob and his wife Jinny have a son, Mercer. Their son, Jarrett, is engaged to Krista Dewald. Lardy is active as a lector and adult choir member at Holy Cross Catholic Church in West Fargo and as a member of the American Society of Animal Science, serving as its president in 2014.
Long-time NDSA Office Manager Sherry Schulz has been an NDSA member for 23 years. She started as the office manager on March 1, 1992, and retired from the association in April 2019. She dedicated nearly three decades to the association.
Schulz attended Bismarck State College in pursuit of an accounting degree and then Capital Commercial College for computer programming. She managed Swiss Colony in Bismarck and Dickinson and started her own home daycare business before coming to work for the state’s livestock producers. “When I heard there was a position open at the Stockmen’s Association, I decided it was time to get back to work, and a chance to work for the cattle industry sounded like an opportunity I wanted to pursue,” Schulz said. “I am grateful to Wade Moser for giving me an opportunity to be a part of the NDSA team back then.”
Being a city girl, she said she had a lot to learn about the industry, but she soon developed a passion for the cattle industry and working for N.D. cattle producers. Schulz developed the association’s first website and several updates over the years. She was the go-to staffer to fix computer problems and learned to fix them by taking them apart. She also increased the NDSA’s visibility through social media channels and was the Masters of Beef Advocacy coordinator for North Dakota.
Schulz lives in Bismarck with her husband of 36 years, Jeff. They have two grown children. Their son Christopher and his wife Amy have two children, Benjamin and Jackson. Their daughter Samantha and her husband Andy have two children, Greta and Theodore.
