The State Legislature named the North Dakota Stockmen's Association (NDSA) the state administrator and allocator for any federally sponsored animal identification program in 2001. The NDSA accepted the charge as to keep livestock producers' concerns at the forefront of any animal identification discussions.

What is a premises?
The basis for defining premises in North Dakota is animal ownership tied to a physical location. Because ownership is critical in traceback systems, the owner address should be the premises address unless there is a logical reason, such as absentee ownership.

Is it mandatory to register your premises?
No, premises registration is voluntary at this time.

If I register a premises, who has access to the information and will it be kept confidential?
The North Dakota Board of Animal Health will have access to the information for animal disease tracing purposes only. The North Dakota Board of Animal Health and the North Dakota Stockmen's Association are required by law to keep the information confidential.

What's the cost to register a premises?
There is no cost to register a premises identification number at this time.

Premises registration forms are available at the NDSA office.
