Speakers

NDSU Livestock Management Extension Specialist Lacey Quail: Selecting and developing replacement heifers can be a weighty decision. Dr. Lacey Quail will summarize the tools we have to prioritize productivity, fertility, and longevity in replacement females.

Of The West Founder Jessie Jarvis: Finding good help is one of the hardest parts of running a ranch, and the wrong hire can cost time, money, and your sanity. Jessie Jarvis, founder of Of The West and a third-generation rancher from Southern Idaho, will walk through a practical hiring process built for ranch operations, whether you're hiring a manager, bringing on a ranch hand, or taking on an intern. You'll learn how to write a job description that attracts the right applicants, where to advertise so your opening actually gets seen, what to ask in an interview to get past the rehearsed answers, and the most common hiring mistakes ranches make and how to avoid them. You'll leave with steps you can put to work the next time you have an opening.
